ISO 45001 is an international standard that specifies requirements for an Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) management system, intended to improve the safety and health of personnel and provide new impetus for occupational health and safety practices in organisations.

What is ISO 45001?

ISO 45001:2018 Health and Safety Management System is an internationally recognized certification applicable to any organization that wishes to establish, implement, and maintain an Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) management system to improve occupational health and safety, eliminate hazards, minimize OH&S risks (including system deficiencies), take advantage of OH&S opportunities, and address OH&S management system nonconformities associated with its activities.

The ISO 45001 standard is structured as per the High Level Structure and includes the following key elements: context of the organization, leadership & worker participation, planning, support, operation, performance evaluation, and improvement. Accredited certificates for ISO 45001 have a validity of 3 years upon successful completion of annual surveillance audits.

How to get to ISO 45001 certified?

Cotecna provides clients with an accredited certification against the ISO 45001 standard. Clients and customers willing to undergo certification needs to complete the application and contract agreement process following which initial or re-certification audits will be carried out. Once the certificate is issued (with a 3 year validity), further surveillance audits will have to be carried out at pre-defined frequencies to maintain the validity of the certificate.
